Badminton New Zealand has made the decision today, following a review of the current COVID-19 situation, to extend the suspension of sanctioned events and inter-association competition until 1st June.
Events affected by this suspension include:
- Auckland U19 Open
- Hutt Valley U17 Open
- Southland Open
- Oroua U13 Open
- Canterbury U17 Open
- North Harbour Open
- Waikato U15 Open
- Southland U15 Open
- Southland U19 Open
Inter-association competition during this period, including North Island Veterans (6th June) is also suspended.
Badminton New Zealand's decision is based on the current COVID-19 alert level, as advised by the government. We do not intend to resume events while the alert level remains elevated.
If the alert level returns to one or lower, Badminton New Zealand will risk assess sanctioned events and inter-association competitions and make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Local events and competitions that do not involve significant travel or large numbers will be considered at alert level two or lower.
This decision and framework has been made to provide greater certainty and transparency to players and associations and to help our community to plan for the resumption of badminton when the situation allows.
