Junior Team Named For Sydney

July 18, 2022

Badminton New Zealand has proudly selected their junior team to compete in Badminton Oceania's Trans-Tasman opportunity in October. As part of their Tier 1 Player Development programme, junior teams from Australia and New Zealand will compete in a three-test tie series and combined training sessions, all preceding the Sydney International.

For many of the juniors, this will be their first opportunity to resume international competition again since the Oceania Junior Championships in early 2020.

Congratulations the following juniors named for the New Zealand Junior team:

  • Victoria Guo (Waikato)
  • Berry Ng (North Harbour)
  • Nanna Siegemund (North Harbour)
  • Camellia Zhou (Auckland)
  • Chris Benzie (North Harbour)
  • Isaac Chan (Waitakere)
  • Raphael Deloy (Waikato)
  • Jaden Mingoa (North Harbour)

The team’s non-travelling reserves named are; Daniel Hu (Auckland), Lezhi Zhu (Hawke’s Bay), Amanda Ting (North Harbour) and Lillian Cao (North Harbour).

National Coach, Rikke Olsen Siegemund accompanies the team throughout this campaign. “We have selected a team with a range of different age groups,” Rikke comments,

“We want to use this opportunity to expose a number of players at different stages within the New Zealand Junior Programme to these international experiences and hope they carry forward the knowledge learnt, both to their peers and in future performance event opportunities.”

The New Zealand Junior team departs in late September, contesting the Trans-Tasman test ties from October 1 - 2. The Sydney International takes place from October 5 - 9.
